Star Wars: The Old Republic E3 Cinematic Trailer

Yesterday during E3, BioWare and EA Games released a new 6 minute intro-cinematic for Star Wars: The Old Republic. All I can say is I wish the prequels looked this amazing. This game is the only thing that makes me regret having a Mac. Luckily, I can still install Windows 7 on my Mac, and believe me, for this game I will happily do so.

Still no release date yet. But for anyone who enjoyed KOTOR like I did, this looks to be the PC game we’ve been waiting for. View the trailer below, and make sure you also visit the Star Wars: The Old Republic Official Website for more videos and information on the gameplay, characters, guilds, plots, news, and release date information. Origin.com also has an exclusive trailer. Sadly, no release date yet.

BREAKING: Nintendo Announces the “Wii U”

Just moments ago, Nintendo announced their new console will not be a console at all, but a controller that couples with the Wii system. They are calling it the “Wii U”, and developers are already excited about the prospects. The controller has everything current controllers have – motion controls, vibration, etc. – but now includes a small screen that can either feature its own game, or provide an extra screen for the game being played on the TV.

Now that I’m typing this out, it seems really hard to explain without actually being able to look at it. But let me tell you this, it looks unbelievable. Just like the Wii, the Wii U brings us a whole new way to play video games. I imagine it’s going to have some kinks to work out, and it may be a few years before it reaches its potential, but it’s also going to be fun right from the start of its release next year. I’m not clear yet if you have to buy a whole new Wii, or if the new controller will work with the original Wii, but either way I think we can expect some competitive pricing plans in the tradition of Nintendo. UPDATE: Looks like Kotaku has an image of the new console. People in the comments are complaining, but I don’t see anything wrong with it… plus, you can still use all your Wii equipment like Wii-motes, nunchuks, guns, scales, and wheels.

Sony Press Conference Highlights at E3

Earlier this evening, Sony held its press conference at E3 and revealed, among other things, it’s new 3D entertainment system and the PS Vita – the new handheld next-generation player (NGP) coming out this Holiday season. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to sit and take notes, but there are a few highlights I can point out. The conference was about 90 minutes long, so there was quite a bit of information. My impression was at least more favorable than the Ubisoft conference earlier today. What a waste of an hour. By the time they got to Assassin’s Creed Revelations, I didn’t really even care anymore. Plus, the MC was kind of a douche. Just sayin’. While Sony’s conference wasn’t as flashy as Microsoft’s, it was jam-packed with cut scenes and gameplay demos, which is always fun.

Tomb Raider trailer straight from E3

First, let me just say that I was never a fan of Tomb Raider. To me it just looked like a big-boobed cartoon girl for pre-pubescent boys to drool over while on the computer. However, I can no longer deny that Lara Croft has made a name for herself in the PC/console game world, and she now represents one of the most kick-ass women in video game history. Today at their press conference at E3, Microsoft debuted some live gameplay of the newest installment. Lara spent a good time getting the crap beat out of her and moaning a lot, but overall the gameplay looked amazing and the graphics are out of this world.

Here’s the description provided by Square Enix:

Armed with only the raw instincts and physical ability to push beyond the limits of human endurance, Tomb Raider delivers an intense and gritty story into the origins of Lara Croft and her ascent from a frightened young woman to a hardened survivor.

This newest Tomb Raider title won’t be released until sometime in 2012, but we do have a trailer to enjoy from Square Enix. View it below, then follow the link to Square Enix’s website for more information.

New ‘Star Trek’ Game Lets You Be Kirk and Spock

From SPACE.com:

As part of the E3 video game conference, Paramount Digital Entertainment has announced a new Star Trek game is coming to consoles and PC in summer 2012. Rather than no-name or player-created characters, as in previous games, this puts you in the new movie universe and lets players play as both Captain Kirk and the Vulcan Mr. Spock.
