Earlier this evening, Sony held its press conference at E3 and revealed, among other things, it’s new 3D entertainment system and the PS Vita – the new handheld next-generation player (NGP) coming out this Holiday season. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to sit and take notes, but there are a few highlights I can point out. The conference was about 90 minutes long, so there was quite a bit of information. My impression was at least more favorable than the Ubisoft conference earlier today. What a waste of an hour. By the time they got to Assassin’s Creed Revelations, I didn’t really even care anymore. Plus, the MC was kind of a douche. Just sayin’. While Sony’s conference wasn’t as flashy as Microsoft’s, it was jam-packed with cut scenes and gameplay demos, which is always fun.
Okay – the two biggest announcements were the 3D entertainment system and the PS Vita. The 3D system will be available for $499, and the system will include a 24” 3D monitor, glasses, Resistance 3, and an HDMI cord. The PS Vita is set at $249 for the Wi-Fi model, and $299 for the 3G model (which, by the way, will be available ONLY through AT&T. UGH!). Other highlights include demos from Infamous 2, Resistance 3, and NBA 2K12 (and all look amazing), as well as an apology about the recent Playstation Network outage.
