Yesterday, March 22, actor and comedian William Shatner celebrated his 80th birthday. And damn, does he look good! To celebrate the occasion Mr. Shatner, now staring in CBS’ “Shit My Dad Says”, held an “International Talk Like William Shatner Day” video contest on his website with partners ThinkGeek and TrekMovie.com.
You can view the finalists and grand prize winner at TrekMovie.com. The winner will receive gold command-color Star Trek robe.
In honor of the space shuttle Discovery’s final flight, NASA recently held a contest for the public to pick a wake-up song for the astronauts. The winning song? The Star Trek theme. However, instead of the original recording, Mr. Shatner recorded a special version that stated the following:
“These have been the voyages of the space shuttle Discovery. Her 30-year mission: to seek out new science, to build new outposts, to bring nations together in the final frontier, to boldly go and do what no spacecraft has done before.”
Perhaps as a thanks, he received a friendly message from NASA on Twitter: “We want to wish happy birthday to @WilliamShatner — someone who continues to boldly go!”
Mr. Shatner is perhaps best known for his role as Captain James T. Kirk in the original TV series Star Trek, as well as the Star Trek movies. His last appearance as James T. Kirk on-screen was in 1994’s Star Trek: Generations. Here’s to you, Mr. Shatner – may we all look as good at 80 as you do!
